Supporting student wellbeing and future-ready education

The Exeter High School Redevelopment project was undertaken to upgrade key facilities and enhance the learning environment for students across Years 7–10. The scope of works included refurbishing the Home Economics area, updating general teaching spaces, improving courtyards and toilet facilities, and constructing a new bus shelter. The primary goal was to modernise infrastructure in a way that meets the evolving needs of the school community while minimising disruption to daily operations.

challenges

Undertaking construction within a live school environment presented several challenges, including the need to ensure student safety, maintain school operations, and minimise disruption throughout the build. Meeting the evolving needs of students and educators also required responsive design solutions and effective stakeholder engagement. Accessibility and environmental sustainability were additional priorities that shaped key decisions throughout the project.

Solutions

Tas City Building worked collaboratively with Morrison Breytenbach Architects and Aldanmark Consulting Engineers to successfully deliver a flexible and inclusive educational facility:

  • Close consultation with school stakeholders guided thoughtful design changes, ensuring the upgraded spaces serve both staff and student needs.
  • Strict safety protocols were enforced, including secure fencing, security screening, and careful scheduling of works outside of school hours to reduce disruption and maintain a safe environment.
  • Accessibility enhancements were prioritised to support inclusive learning for all students.
  • Sustainable practices were embedded into the project, including the use of recycled materials and landscape designs that preserved existing mature trees to reduce environmental impact.

With completion due in September 2025, the Exeter High School Redevelopment showcases Tas City Building’s commitment to delivering high-quality, future-focused learning environments through safe, sustainable, and collaborative construction practices.
